What is postpartum?

The post partum, what is it?

After bringing your little one to life, you enter the ambivalent phase of the postpartum. You hear green and ripe of them on this subject, but what is it in the end?

How long does it last?

The postpartum begins when the baby arrives and extends over several months, even a few years. Like pregnancy, each postpartum is different depending on your story, your delivery, your baby, or the environment in which you will evolve after giving life.

A period of resilience.

Far from the time when you imagined living your postpartum in a magical way, when baby would make his nights right away, when your life would resume his normal course and where you would never wear diapers.

Postpartum is an extraordinary adventure to meet yourself but also of the little being that you already cherish so much. So it is better to laugh than cry, this period will be that of resilience, acceptance and "long live the diapers".

And yes, postpartum is a painful moment for your body, which is gradually recovering from childbirth. Although you had promised you never to wear protections (Ahhh this famous net that sticks to the buttocks ...!), And well know ladies that they will save the bet! As much for baby as for you, diapers will be your best ally.

This period is, if we believe the experiences of many mothers, one of the most complicated in their life as young mothers. You have to face bodily changes, new life for many, fatigue, Baby Blues and a whole bunch of things. But don't panic, you are on the verge of becoming a sacred heroine of modern times.

Help I feel guilty.

Postpartum is the period when young mothers explain that guilt is omnipresent. Faced with the injunctions of the company, succeeding in detaching itself is complicated.

Guilt comes from all events that are difficult to control:

  • a difficult childbirth

  • A sick child

  • Postpartum depression

It is normal to want your child to not lack anything, that he has an extraordinary life, but there is no manual to be the perfect parents, you will not be able to control everything. Let yourself live, it's time to be imperfect.

Rest, the key to success.

This postpartum being a trying moment, the first recommendation is rest. But how? With everything you have to manage? No shame, do not hesitate to ask for support or help from your loved ones. Rest on your partner or a benevolent person, communicate on your physical and mental condition.

However, you don't have to welcome people. If you do not want to receive, that the visits tire you, you have the right to put your off and say no.

There are also organizations and many specialized professionals to answer all your questions and support you in this period of doubts (PMI, midwives, doula ...).

In the meantime, even if each pregnancy and each post partum is and will remain unique, at Monjour, we have selected some podcasts to listen to to uninhibit and live this period better:
